#HIPSTER LIFE (DRAFT ESSAY)
I don’t what it is, but recently it seems like we are in the age of hipsters. They’re everywhere I look. I was walking around Rowan University one day, and I was counting every hipster that walked by me. I was picking them out one by one, smiling at how easy it was to spot them in a crowd. They walk around with that certain swagger. They’re so carelessly cool with their shaggy hair and tight jeans, combat boots and cigarettes in their hand. They have that I don’t give a damn that I’m different attitude. What’s funny is, I laughed to myself and thought, are hipsters really all that different? I get it that they dress different from mainstream. Some have blue hair, some have red hair. They listen to different music. They have this certain edge about them, but, if they’re so “different” and “original” and hate anything that goes mainstream, why are they okay with the fact that they all look exactly alike? Hipsters claim to be so original, yet there’s really no originality at all once they all start dressing and acting the same way.
Hipsters are people that try extra hard to be different, yet it’s contradicting in itself when one hipster looks just like the next. Like I said, picking a hipster out of a crowd is one of the easiest things to do. They’re likely wearing pants tighter than tight. They usually always have a pair of combat boots on. They either have a beanie or some sort of hat on their head. They love, love to wear black-rimmed glasses (even though they don’t need the glasses to see since there’s no prescription in them.) Recently this whole mustache phase has been coming in. My problem with this is, how can they seriously call themselves original, when they all look exactly the same?
Being original means not being a copy or an imitation of something that's already been created. So, where is the originality in these pictures?

One person dyes their hair blue, then next thing you know everyone is walking around looking like The Smurfs. That's not original.
And where is the originality in these photos?
And where is the originality in these photos?
Every single one of these young men look identical to me. They're all sporting basically the same tight T-shirt, the same tight pants, and the same bohemian panama hat. Ironically enough, they all have the same facial hair as well, but that wasn't intentional at all. It just goes to show that these "hipsters" really aren't original at all when you can't seem to tell one apart from the other.
Another things that really ruffles my feathers are those big, black-rimmed glasses. I mean, c'mon, do you seriously need those glasses to see? I can probably count at least twenty people that walk by me on campus with those same damn glasses. Where is the originality in that?
